- Long Description
Barbara’s background has always been making, selling her wares at Festivals and Fayres. Now she has moved on to creating in a new medium – glass.
The blown glass pieces are made using the ancient process of Incalmo, constructing a vessel by fusing two or more blown glass elements in the hot glass studio. The neck is then pulled into its final resting place, creating non- functional vessels. Barbara enjoys working with a wide range of colours. The vibrant colours she has used in the Orange and Purple pieces are inspired by dramatic sunsets in rural Somerset.
She concentrates on an aesthetic that moves her, rather than following fabricated trends that brainwash buyers into constantly obtaining more disposable possessions.
Recent work, “In The Balance” is an assemblage of glass and found objects, suggesting a playful rejection of trend and the hypocrisy of shabby chic.
